How to use this Crossplay helper
- Copy your board. Tap a square and type the letters you see in the game. Tap the same square again to switch between typing across and typing down. If a tile on the board is a blank, select it and press Mark as blank; it then scores zero.
- Enter your tiles. Type the seven letters on your tray. Use
?for a blank. - Press Solve. Moves are ranked by the points they score this turn. Tap a move to preview it on the board, then Play this move to keep the board up to date for your next turn.
How the solver scores moves
Scores follow Crossplay rules rather than Scrabble rules. Letter values come from the Crossplay tile set (G and B are 4, K is 6, V is 6, J is 10), bonus squares are in their Crossplay positions, the center square has no multiplier, and using all seven tiles adds the 40-point sweep bonus. Every new word a move forms, including words formed across the main word, is counted. See the full Crossplay letter values and board layout.
The highest score is not always the strongest play. A move that opens a triple word lane for your opponent, or spends a blank for a few points, can cost more later. Use the list to see your options, then decide. Our guide on how to play Crossplay covers the rules that shape those decisions.
Review your game afterward
The most useful time to run the solver is after a game ends. Rebuild the position from a turn that went badly, enter the tiles you had, and see which plays you missed and why they scored more. Over a few games you start to notice the patterns: parallel plays that score two words at once, hooks that reach a triple word square, and when to hold a blank for a sweep. The Crossplay analyzer page walks through a full post-game review.
Please keep it out of live games. Crossplay is a two-player game, and your opponent is playing on their own.
Only have letters, not a board?
Use the Crossplay word finder to unscramble your tiles into every word they make, or check a single word with the Crossplay word checker. Short words win many games, so the list of Crossplay two-letter words is worth a look too.
About the word list. Crossplay checks words against the NASPA Word List 2023, a licensed list we cannot publish. This site uses the public-domain ENABLE word list plus the 107 two-letter words allowed in North American play. The two lists overlap heavily, but a few newer words may be missing here, and Crossplay may reject a few words this site accepts. The game itself always has the final say.
Crossplay solver: common questions
Is this Crossplay solver free?
Yes. There is no account and nothing to install. The solver runs in your browser, and your board is saved only in this browser.
Does it work for the first move?
Yes. With an empty board, the solver only lists words that cover the center square, as Crossplay requires.
Why does the solver show a word that Crossplay rejects?
This site uses an open word list, not the licensed NASPA Word List 2023 that Crossplay uses. The lists differ by a small number of words.
Is this site part of The New York Times?
No. It is an independent helper for players and is not affiliated with or endorsed by The New York Times Company.
